Presepsin as an important diagnostic biomarker that differentiates sepsis from non-infectious SIRS in critical ill adult patients: A system review and meta-analysis
Introduction: Identifying sepsis from non-infectious SIRS is difficult, especially in patients with severe diseases, such as multiple trauma, pancreatitis, peritonitis, ongoing surgery and severe burns. There is no standard biomarker for sepsis, not even pro-calcitonin (PCT). Presepsin was reported as a promising marker for diagnosis of bacterial infections. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the accuracy and clinical value of presepsin in diagnosing sepsis from SIRS of non-infectious origin in adult patients with critical illness.
